Host-initiated cancellations are penalised. We need this because guests rely on bookings — when hosts cancel last-minute, it breaks trust in the platform.
Penalty schedule
First cancellation: warning + ranking drop for 60 days.
Second within 12 months: ranking drop for 90 days + fee equal to 10% of booking value.
Third within 12 months: temporary suspension pending review.
Pattern of cancellations: permanent removal.
Exceptions
Force majeure — natural disasters, government restrictions. No penalty.
Guest violation of community standards — no penalty if documented.
Medical emergency for the host — no penalty with documentation.
How to avoid
Block dates well in advance instead of cancelling.
Build buffer capacity into cohorts to absorb venue issues.
Talk to guest first — sometimes a room change avoids cancellation.
