How your retreat listing gets found on Google

Every listing on Finding Retreats is published with the search plumbing already in place. Here is what the platform does for you, what you can edit yourself, and how it feeds your ranking on the site.

What every listing ships with

None of this needs setting up, and none of it costs anything.

A search title and meta description

If you have not written them, the page uses your listing name, your summary or the first 160 characters of your description, and your starting price.

Keywords

Your own keywords when set; otherwise the listing category, city, country and tags.

Canonical URL and share cards

Each listing has one canonical address, plus Open Graph and Twitter cards with a generated share image, so links pasted into chats and social feeds render with a picture.

Structured data

Retreat pages emit Event, Product and Breadcrumb JSON-LD, the format Google reads for rich results.

Sitemaps and robots

A sitemap index plus seven dynamic sitemaps (retreats, wellness, experiences, locations, categories, articles, learning centre), all declared in robots.txt.

Category and location landing pages

Your listing also appears on the category and destination pages Finding Retreats maintains, which give search engines more routes to your page.

What you can edit

The SEO section of the listing editor holds three fields. Write them yourself, or press Auto-Generate to draft all three from your listing. If the fields already hold text the editor asks before replacing it, and an Undo button restores what you had.

Search titleThe headline Google shows. Auto-Generate caps it at 60 characters.
Meta descriptionThe snippet under the headline. Auto-Generate drafts 120–160 characters from your description.
KeywordsA list of terms for the listing. Auto-Generate seeds it from the listing type and location.

A live SEO score sits at the top of the section and updates a moment after you stop typing.

Image alt text

Alt text tells search engines and screen readers what a photo shows. The photo editor helps you write it without leaving the listing.

  • Press Regenerate on any photo and you get three scored alt-text variations to pick from.
  • Alt text that exactly matches another photo on the same listing is flagged as a duplicate.
  • Room photos brought in through the listing import get alt text automatically, named after the retreat and the room.
  • Alt-text coverage across your photos is part of the live SEO score.

Your SEO score counts on Finding Retreats too

The score in the listing editor is not only about Google. It is one of the inputs to the Host engagement pillar, which carries 20% of your Finding Retreats ranking and measures response speed, response rate and how findable your listings are. A complete SEO section lifts your position in search on the site as well as off it.
