A retreat lands better when you arrive ready. Here's how to set yourself up — practically and mentally.
1–2 weeks before
Reduce caffeine and alcohol if you can.
Start adjusting sleep schedule if there's a big timezone shift.
Tell people you'll be hard to reach (if it's a digital-detox retreat).
Packing
Comfortable clothing for movement.
Warm layers — practice spaces are often cooler than you expect.
A water bottle, journal, and any personal medications.
Check the host's packing list — they often share one.
Mindset
Arrive open. The first day is often the hardest — your nervous system needs time to land. Don't judge the retreat in the first 24 hours.
